Morton confirms supremacy at the 42nd Tour de l’Abitibi, whereas Philippe Nadon wins the ulitmate step

The outcome of the 42nd Tour de l’Abitibi and it’s winner, Lachlan Morton from Team Holowesko Partners, concluded with a surpising step.

Morton, along with 21 other cyclists, took advantage of the strong side winds that forced the platoon to spread out causing them to élude from the platoon. Everything was decided fifteen kilometers after the start of the race in Senneterre. On a total of 21 racers, 11 were part of the 12 best on the general classification, which left the platoon no chances to catch up.

Upon it’s arrival in Val-d’Or, before beginning the nine laps around town, the small leading group had 4 minutes and 10 seconds in advance on the platoon. Many cyclists tried to follow them without success. The winner of the 7th step, Philippe Nadon, from Amos and on the Quebec Team, distingushed himself during his final sprint at the finish line. The leading group crossed the finish line in 2 hours, 50 minutes and 19 seconds. Nadon becomes the first racer from Abitibi to win an individual step since Patrick Deshaies in 1984.

Lochlan Morton finishes with 59 seconds in the general individual classification. Smith Dion from New Zealand and the American Benjamin Swedberg won the other medals today. Swedberg proudly leaves Abitibi-Témiscamingue with his orange jersey for the points leader and the young junior, James Oram from the New Zealand team leaves wearing the blue jersey.

The Canadian Craig Logan, second after six steps, was unlucky by being the victim of a flat tire just before the leading group escaped from the platoon.

This is how the 42nd Tour de l’Abitibi in Val-d’Or concluded. The organisation committee wants to congratulate all of the cylcists from here and from around the world, for having the courage to face all of the seven steps in six days. Well Done !
